Personas turn the AI into a specialist
A Persona is a named AI assistant with its own avatar, personality, and instructions. Each one is a pre-configured specialist (a marketer, a developer, an editor) that starts every chat already knowing its job, so you skip the setup and go straight to the work.
Personas live in Additions at /additions, under the Personas tab. A public gallery is also at /personas.
What a Persona chat looks like
Click Use Now on any Persona card to open a new chat with it attached:
- The Persona’s system prompt drives every reply. Its expertise, tone, and rules apply to the whole conversation.
- Its welcome message opens the chat, with up to 4 suggested prompts shown as quick-start chips.
- Its name and avatar appear in the chat header and next to the conversation in your sidebar.
A Persona chat is still a full Krater chat: uploads, slash commands like /image or /research, your connected Apps, Keep, and chat history all work the same way.
The Smart Auto Router picks the model
Persona chats always run on the Smart Auto Router (auto/smart), which sends each message to the best model in the 500+ model catalog automatically. The model picker is locked in Persona chats, by design: the creator picks the personality, the router picks the brain.
Auto Routers normally require Ultra or Max, but Persona chats are exempt: Smart is available on every plan inside a Persona chat. Each message is billed at the picked model’s real cost, with no fixed Auto Router price.
If a Persona is later unpublished or deleted, Krater detaches it with a notice and the conversation continues as a normal chat.
Finding Personas
The Personas tab in Additions lists every published Persona, featured first, then by popularity. Sort by Trending, Top rated, Newest, or Most used, or search by name and description. Open any card to see:
- Description, category, and tags
- Conversation starters you can click to pre-fill the first message
- Capability badges for the slash commands it specializes in
- Public star ratings and total uses
Bookmark a Persona with the save icon to pin it under the Saved tab.
Create your own
Go to Additions → My → Create (or the + button in the Additions toolbar) and pick the Persona card. Creating requires a paid plan: Pro, Ultra, or Max.

Optional fields
- Avatar: click Generate avatars for a set of 3 AI-made candidates (up to 10 generations per day), or upload your own image up to 2 MB.
- Focus commands: pick up to 3 slash commands the Persona specializes in. They display as capability badges on its page.
Public or private
- Public: once approved, anyone on Krater can find, use, and rate it.
- Private: only you can see and use it.
Click Save Draft to keep working, or Submit for Review to send it for approval. Approved Personas go live: public ones in the catalog, private ones for you alone. Edit or delete yours any time from Additions → My, and flip a private Persona to public from its page later if you change your mind.
Tips for a great Persona
- Write the system prompt like a job description. “You are a senior copy editor who fixes grammar, tightens prose, and flags unclear claims” beats “You are helpful.”
- Set guardrails. Tell it what not to do, like “Never invent statistics; ask for the source.”
- Give it a voice. Tone instructions are what make a Persona feel like a character instead of a chatbot.
- Make suggested prompts show off its best trick. They are the first thing users click.
- Keep the scope narrow. One Persona, one job. “Email marketing specialist” beats “marketer.”
FAQ
Do Personas cost extra credits? No. Persona messages are billed at the selected model’s real cost, with no fixed Auto Router price.
Can I choose a different model in a Persona chat? No, and that is the point. The Smart Auto Router picks the best model per message, and it works on every plan inside a Persona chat even though it normally requires Ultra or Max.
Who can create a Persona? Anyone on a paid plan: Pro, Ultra, or Max.
What happens if a Persona I used is removed? The chat detaches it with a notice and continues as a normal Krater chat. Your history is untouched.
Can a Persona use my files and connected apps? Yes. It is a normal Krater chat, so uploads, Keep, connected Apps, and slash commands all work.
