Cancel ChatGPT in about a minute: web, iPhone, Android and workspace steps, the gotchas that keep billing alive, and what ex-subscribers switch to.

Workspace plans are cancelled by an admin, not by individual members: Settings, then your workspace name, then Billing, then manage the plan there. Removing a member frees the seat but does not stop billing on its own.
Three reasons come up over and over in the threads complaining about this:
If the reason is cost or juggling, the answer is not another single-model subscription, it is consolidation. Krater Pro is $20 a month and includes the GPT models plus 400+ others (Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek), image and video generation, voice mode, and document work in one workspace. Browse the full model list. Teams get 5 seats on Max for $119 flat instead of per-seat billing.
If the reason is that you simply stopped using it, cancel and pocket the $20. Free ChatGPT still covers occasional questions, and Krater's guest mode does too.
More guides: cancel Claude, cancel Grok, cancel Gemini, or see every cancel guide.
How do I cancel my ChatGPT subscription? Web signups: profile icon, Settings, Subscription, Manage, Cancel. iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Android: Play Store, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions.
Will I get a refund after cancelling ChatGPT? OpenAI's policy is no refunds for partial billing periods; access continues until the period ends. You can ask support, but do not count on it.
Does deleting my ChatGPT account cancel the subscription? No. Account deletion and billing are separate. Cancel the subscription first, then delete data if you want.
Why can't I find the cancel button? You subscribed through Apple or Google. Check your phone's Subscriptions menu instead of chatgpt.com.
