ChatGPT Business costs $25-30 per seat per month. For a 10-person team that is $300/month for one vendor. Here is the real seat math and the flat-rate alternative.
ChatGPT Business is $25 per seat monthly ($20 billed annually), minimum two seats, for GPT models only. A 10-person team pays $200-300/month before anyone sends a message. The real ChatGPT alternative for business is either Claude Team (same per-seat model, one vendor) or a multi-model workspace like Krater Max - five seats, 500+ models, flat $119/month - which is where most small teams land once they run the math.

OpenAI sells two seat tiers under the Business name. Standard is $25 per seat per month, or $20 per seat billed annually. Premium is $125 per seat monthly ($100 annually). The plan requires a two-seat minimum and caps at 200 seats - above that you are pushed to Enterprise, which is custom-priced.
What the seats include: unlimited GPT-5.x messages subject to fair-use, a workspace admin console, SAML SSO on Premium, connectors to Google Drive, SharePoint and others, and a contractual no-training default - your business data is not used to train models. The API is billed separately, always.
Per-seat pricing punishes breadth. If five people each use AI for twenty minutes a day, you still pay five full seats:
The crossover is fast: past about two daily users, the flat workspace is cheaper than the incumbents, and the gap grows every seat you add. We broke the full three-way comparison down in ChatGPT Team vs Claude Team vs Krater Max.
Honesty section, because every alternative page pretends this away. ChatGPT Business gives you OpenAI's newest models day one, first-party connectors, and an admin console your IT team already understands. Custom GPTs your company built will not transfer. If your team is deeply invested in the OpenAI ecosystem and each seat is heavily used, the per-seat price is defensible.
Where it falls down: you are paying premium seats for light users, and you are locked to one vendor's models for every task - so the team member who needs image generation, video, or a better coding model is paying a second subscription anyway.
Krater Max - best for most small teams. Five seats, $119 flat, every frontier model in one workspace with shared credits, tasks, and 1,400+ app integrations. The seat that only opens AI twice a week costs the same as the power user's - nothing. See Krater pricing.
Claude Team - if you are a Claude shop. $25-30/seat, better long-document writing than GPT for most professional tasks, same per-seat cost problem.
Abacus ChatLLM Teams - the budget pick. From $10/user/month for multi-model access, weaker ecosystem but real seat economics.
Perplexity Enterprise Pro - research-heavy teams. ~$40/seat; a research tool, not a full workspace.
Staying on Plus - the honest floor. If your "team" is one or two people, two $20 Plus subscriptions at $40/month beat every business tier on the market.
Count daily users, not licensed seats. If more than half your seats are daily power users and admin controls are a requirement, ChatGPT Business or Claude Team are the sane default. If most of the team uses AI a few times a week across different kinds of work - writing, images, research, occasional video - the per-seat model is buying everyone a gym membership for a treadmill only two people use.

ChatGPT Business is a good product priced like a tax: $25-30 per person whether they use it once a week or all day. For teams where AI usage is broad but uneven, a flat multi-model workspace is the alternative that survives the spreadsheet - $119 for five seats versus $100-300 for the same five people on one vendor. Run your own seat count before you sign anything.
