We built the same small business site on the leading AI website builders and compared: Krater, Lovable, Wix ADI, Durable, 10Web and Framer. Which one is worth your money.
The best AI website builder for most people in 2026 is Krater: it produces the strongest first drafts, iterates well in plain language, publishes in one click with custom domains and rollback on Ultra ($49/month), and the subscription includes 500+ AI models you would otherwise buy separately. Lovable is the best single-purpose alternative (~$25/month). Wix ADI, Durable, 10Web and Framer fit narrower cases: drag-and-drop editors, instant brochure sites, WordPress users, and design-forward marketing pages respectively.

Same brief for every tool: "A one-page website for a small Copenhagen coffee roastery: hero, 8-item menu with prices, subscription plan section, three customer reviews, location and hours, footer. Minimal, warm, mobile-first." We judged the first draft, how many prompts to a publishable site, what publishing actually costs (subdomain vs your own domain), and what else the subscription covers.
| Rank | Builder | Publish price | Custom domain | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Krater | Ultra $49/mo (2 sites, 2 domains) / Max $119 (5, 5) | One CNAME, auto SSL | Most people: site + whole AI suite in one |
| 2 | Lovable | Pro ~$25/mo | On paid plans | Polished single web app or site |
| 3 | Durable | ~$12/mo | Included | Fastest possible brochure site |
| 4 | Wix ADI / AI builder | ~$17/mo | Paid tiers | Editor-first users who still want AI drafts |
| 5 | 10Web | ~$10/mo | Paid tiers | WordPress loyalists |
| 6 | Framer AI | ~$10/mo (Mini) | Paid tiers | Design-forward marketing pages |
Prices are the cheapest tiers that publish a real site at the time of writing and change often; check each pricing page.
Krater's /build produced the most usable first draft of the six: correct sections in order, sensible typography, no filler. The Studio preview shows desktop, tablet and mobile at once, every change is versioned with diffs, and rollback is one click. Publishing is a button; connecting your own domain is one CNAME record with automatic SSL, covered on Ultra (2 sites and 2 domains, $49/month) and Max (5 and 5, $119/month).
The part that changes the math: the same subscription includes the rest of Krater, 500+ models for chat, writing, image generation, video, voice and agents. A site on Lovable or Wix is a site. A site on Krater is the site plus the tools you would use to write its copy, generate its images and produce its promo video. If you pay for those elsewhere, consolidating usually wins. See Krater pricing.
Lovable makes clean, modern web apps and sites with an opinionated look that reads as "designed" rather than "generated". It is the closest competitor on quality, and where Krater wins on breadth, Lovable wins on focus: if you only ever build web UIs and want the simplest possible mental model, it is excellent. Custom domains work on paid plans from about $25/month. Longer analysis in our Lovable comparison.
Durable generates a full small-business site in under a minute from three questions. That speed is real and impressive. The trade-off is sameness: output looks like a template because it is one, and iterating beyond it is limited. For a tradesperson who wants a phone-number page live today at about $12/month, it does the job.
Wix's AI gives you an AI-generated draft inside the Wix editor: good if you want to keep editing by hand afterward, overkill and slower if you do not. 10Web is really for people committed to WordPress who want AI to fill it; fine, but WordPress hosting and plugin upkeep come with it. Framer produces the most beautiful marketing sites of the group and is the hardest to push beyond its comfort zone; brilliant for a product page, wrong for anything data-driven.
Every builder lets you try generation free, none lets you run a real site on your own domain free. "Free AI website builder" results are trials or subdomain sites. If free is a hard requirement, the honest path is a static host plus your own HTML, which is a different job. We lay it out in what hosting really costs.
For most people, Krater: best drafts plus the whole AI suite on one subscription. Lovable is the best single-purpose alternative.
All have free trials or limited free tiers, but publishing a real site on your own domain is always a paid plan, roughly $10 to $49 per month.
They can generate storefront pages, but real ecommerce needs payments, inventory and shipping, where Shopify or a dedicated platform is still the better tool.
The tools produce standard HTML which ranks fine; what ranks is real content. Replace all placeholder copy and write your own text.
Wix suits people who want to edit by hand after the AI draft; Krater suits people who want to keep prompting and get the whole AI suite with the site.
Paste the coffee roastery prompt into /build and judge the first draft yourself in about a minute. Open Krater, type /build and describe what you want. Publishing to a live URL and connecting your own domain is included on Ultra ($49/month, 2 sites and 2 custom domains) and Max ($119/month, 5 and 5), together with 500+ AI models for everything else you do.
Krater is the best AI website builder for most people because it wins the comparison that matters: first draft plus iteration plus publishing plus everything else the subscription replaces. Lovable is the strongest single-purpose rival; the rest fill niches.
