Every ChatGPT plan from Free to Pro $200, what the tiers actually change, the paused $200 tier, and when one subscription beats several.
ChatGPT has five individual plans in 2026: Free at $0, Go at $5.50 a month, Plus at $20 a month, and Pro at $100 or $200 a month depending on the usage tier. For teams, Business costs $25 per user a month ($20 billed annually) and Enterprise is custom-quoted. The main difference between tiers is how much of the newest GPT models you can use, not which features exist.

| Plan | Monthly | Annual option | Best for | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | - | Casual chat, trying it out | Lighter models, capped messages, uploads and image generation |
| Go | $5.50 | - | Frequent casual use | More messages, uploads, images and memory than Free; may show ads |
| Plus | $20 | - | Daily individual use | Flagship GPT models, projects, custom GPTs, expanded deep research and Codex |
| Pro | $100 / $200 | - | Heavy reasoning, research, coding agents | 5x or 20x Plus usage, pro reasoning, maximum Codex and deep research. $200 tier paused for new sign-ups since September 2026 |
| Business | $25/user | $20/user | Teams of 2+ | Shared workspace, admin controls, higher limits |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Large organizations | SSO, compliance, dedicated support |

The ladder is mostly about usage volume of the newest models. Free runs you on lighter models with daily caps that tighten at peak hours. Go buys more of the same for $5.50. Plus is where the flagship GPT models become the default experience rather than a taste, plus projects, memory, custom GPTs and the Codex coding agent. Pro multiplies the Plus limits, adds the pro reasoning mode, and is the tier for people who hit Plus walls every day.
Two gotchas worth knowing before you upgrade. First, Pro's $200 tier has been paused for new sign-ups since 10 September 2026, so the real ceiling for new subscribers is $100. Second, "unlimited" tiers still run under abuse guardrails, so automated bulk use is not what Pro is for.
Only Business and Enterprise have annual pricing. Go, Plus and Pro are month-to-month only, which is genuinely flexible - you can subscribe for a heavy month and cancel without penalty. There is no annual discount on the personal plans, so anyone promising you "ChatGPT Plus at $16 a month" is selling something else.
Plus is good value if ChatGPT is the only AI you use. The math breaks once you add a second subscription: Plus plus Claude Pro plus Gemini Advanced is $60 a month for three model families in three apps. Krater Pro is $20 a month for 400+ models including GPT, Claude and Gemini in one workspace, so the "one vendor vs all vendors" comparison is the honest decision point. We build Krater, so discount that accordingly - but the arithmetic is the arithmetic.
Free is $0, Go is $5.50, Plus is $20, Pro is $100 or $200. Business is $25 per user a month, or $20 on annual billing.
Yes, there is a permanent free tier. It uses lighter models and caps messages, uploads and image generation, with tighter limits at busy times.
Pro multiplies your usage - roughly 5x or 20x Plus - and adds pro reasoning and maximum capacity for deep research and Codex. If you never hit Plus limits, Pro buys you nothing.
There is a seasonal student offer rather than a standing discount. Details and alternatives are in our ChatGPT student discount guide.
No. ChatGPT plans are per user with no sharing tier. We compared what exists instead in our AI family plan breakdown.
No. API access is billed separately per token through the developer platform, whatever subscription you hold.
ChatGPT pricing is simple: Free for casuals, Plus at $20 for daily use, Pro at $100+ for people who live in it, Business at $25 a seat for teams. The only real trap is subscribing to single-vendor Plus and then needing a second AI subscription on top. If that describes you, price an all-in-one option before paying twice.
