How to Connect Gmail to Claude, ChatGPT or Any AI Agent

How to Connect Gmail to Claude, ChatGPT or Any AI Agent

Every way to connect Gmail to an AI: ChatGPT's connected app, Claude's connector, the MCP route, and the zero-setup option.

How to Connect Gmail to Claude, ChatGPT or Any AI Agent

Option 1: ChatGPT's Gmail app

  1. ChatGPT → Settings → Apps → Gmail.
  2. Authorize with the Google account you want it to read. On Google's consent screen, approve the requested permissions.
  3. ChatGPT can then find emails, summarize threads and use Gmail content in answers; event-triggered tasks can fire on new mail.

Option 2: Claude's Gmail connector

  1. Claude → Customize → Connectors → Gmail, authorize via Google OAuth.
  2. Works across claude.ai, Desktop and mobile once connected.

Option 3: MCP server

Google does not ship an official Gmail MCP server, so this path means a community or vendor-hosted server (Composio, Pipedream and similar run them). In Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http gmail <hosted-mcp-url>

The honest caveat: community servers vary in quality and you are trusting a third party with your inbox. Prefer the built-in connectors or a platform you already trust with your data.

What connecting Gmail unlocks

The zero-setup version: Krater

Gmail is wired into Krater's agent along with Drive, Calendar, Slack, Notion and 30+ more apps. Connect it once with OAuth, then ask, "summarize unread mail from this week and draft replies for the three that need one." Same connection, every model. See the Gmail integration.

Privacy note

Email is the highest-stakes integration: your inbox is the reset key to every other account. Only grant it to tools you trust, use the narrowest scopes offered, and revoke access when you stop using it.
