Nano Banana is free in the Gemini app, with limits. How the 5-hour rolling limits work, who gets Nano Banana Pro, and what each image really costs.

| Where | Free? | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini app, free account | Yes | Nano Banana 2 image generation within usage limits |
| Gemini app, Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra | Paid | Higher limits, plus "Redo with Pro" on Pro and Ultra |
| Gemini API / Google AI Studio | Pay as you go | Per-image billing for developers |
| Krater | Paid | Nano Banana, Nano Banana 2 and Pro, from 10 credits per image |
Google changed how Gemini limits work in 2026. According to Google's Gemini Apps help center, usage is now compute-based: it depends on how complex your prompts are, which models and features you use, and how long your chat is. Your allowance refreshes every 5 hours until you hit a weekly limit, and media generation such as images uses more of it than plain chat.
What that means in practice:
Krater does not have a free tier. What you get instead is every Nano Banana version next to GPT Image 2 and the other image models, on one subscription, with no rolling 5-hour limits. Image costs come straight from Krater's live pricing:
| Model and quality | Credits per image | Images on Pro (1,500 credits) |
|---|---|---|
| Nano Banana (original), Standard | 10 | 150 |
| Nano Banana 2, Fast | 11 | 136 |
| Nano Banana 2, Standard (1K) | 20 | 75 |
| Nano Banana 2, Standard (2K) | 30 | 50 |
| Nano Banana 2, Standard (4K) | 40 | 37 |
| Nano Banana Pro | 38 | 39 |
Plans: Plus is $9/month with 500 credits, Pro is $20/month with 1,500 credits, Ultra is $49/month with 4,000 credits. The same credits also cover chat with 400+ AI models, video and voice. Full breakdown on Krater pricing.

Yes, in the Gemini app. Free accounts can generate images with Nano Banana 2 within Google's usage limits, which refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap.
Not in the Gemini app. Regenerating an image with Nano Banana Pro is a paid Google AI plan feature. In Krater it is available as the Pro quality tier for 38 credits per image.
Google no longer publishes a fixed daily image count. Limits are compute-based: image generation uses more of your allowance than chat, and the Gemini app shows your remaining usage in settings.
No. Krater is a paid product. Plus is $9 a month with 500 credits and Pro is $20 a month with 1,500 credits; a Nano Banana 2 image costs 20 credits at Standard quality.
Plan on paying. Developer access through the Gemini API is billed per image, so check Google AI Studio for current rates before building on it.
