How to Cancel DeepSeek (Every Method)
There is usually nothing to cancel: DeepSeek chat is free and the API is prepaid pay-as-you-go with no auto-renew - your balance simply stops being used. To remove the account entirely, delete it in the app under Settings > Delete account. Steps for every platform, refund rules and what to use instead.
DeepSeek chat (free)
- No subscription exists - the web and app chat are free.
- To close the account: app or web > Settings > Account > Delete account.
API balance (platform.deepseek.com)
- Sign in at platform.deepseek.com.
- There is no recurring plan - do nothing, or remove your API keys under API keys to stop all usage.
- Remaining balance is not refundable in cash under the API terms.
What happens after you cancel
- The free chat keeps working until you delete the account.
- Deleting the account removes chat history and is not reversible.
- API keys stop working once deleted or once the account is closed.
Refund policy
Prepaid API balance is not refundable under DeepSeek's terms. If a store purchase exists (rare), refund via that store.
The gotchas that trip people up
- I see a DeepSeek charge on my card It is a manual API top-up, not a subscription - there is nothing recurring to cancel. Check platform.deepseek.com for your recharge history.
Why people actually cancel
Three reasons come up over and over in the threads complaining about this:
- Subscription fatigue. You are paying for DeepSeek plus one or two other AI tools and the bills stack up past $60 a month.
- A new model came out somewhere else. A new release lands at another lab and your DeepSeek sub only buys you one tool.
- You barely used the paid tier. The free or occasional-use path covers what you actually needed.
If that is why you are leaving
If the reason is cost or juggling, the answer is not another single-tool subscription, it is consolidation. Krater Pro is $20 a month and includes DeepSeek V4 Pro inside Krater alongside 500+ other models, plus image and video generation, voice mode and document work in one workspace. Browse the full model list. Teams get 5 seats on Max for $119 flat instead of per-seat billing.
DeepSeek chat stays free with generous limits.
